Pearl Harbor Hawaii From Space Satellite Poster Map
Named for the pearl oysters that were harvested here, cut by thousands of years of river flow as the island took shape, Pearl Harbor is now Hawaii's largest esturary and deep water port. Europeans descended on the harbor in the late 1700's searching for the pearls and by 1887, the U.S. Navy arrived.
Pearl Harbor now accomodates the largest ships in the U.S. fleet and is home to Joint Base Pearl Harbor - Hickam. In this high-resolution image captured in 2010, numerous ships of the Pacific Fleet are seen moored pierside. Ford Island, in the middle of the East Loch, is home to the USS Missouri Battleship and to the northeast of it, lies the USS Arizona Memorial.
